Asialink

The Asialink Centre at the University of Melbourne was established by The Myer Foundation nearly twenty years ago. During this time, the Foundation has provided ongoing support, in partnership with the University, to enable Asialink to address the need for greater understanding of Asia within the Australian community.

Asialink plays a critical role in preparing Australians for a future that will be impacted by the rise of China and India. It also focuses on the ongoing need to help Australians understand the political, religious, economic and social influences within the region.

Asialink continues to expand its work in second track diplomacy. Recently, it hosted the first ever meeting of the Australian Council for Security Cooperation Asia Pacific, outside of Canberra. Also, the 2008 Asialink Conversations in India contributed to strengthening networks between the two countries.

Over the past twenty years, Asialink has successfully created stronger partnerships between many countries in the region. At a time when regional understanding and reciprocity are crucial ingredients for diplomacy, Asialink continues to successfully broker positive and long-term engagements.

Further information about The Asialink Centre is available on the Asialink website.
