Sidney Myer Health Scholarships

Beginning in 2008-2009 the Sidney Myer Health Scholarship Program provides three-year scholarships for PhD students in the areas of community based and public health research.

The aim of the Program is to enhance the career development of medical science, nursing and allied health professionals and to address public health issues in local and regional communities across Australia.

Twelve scholarships have been awarded for PhD research beginning in 2009, of which four are full scholarships to the value of $37,500 per annum and eight are top up scholarships of $11,683. These scholars are also in receipt of a PhD scholarship from the National Health and Medical Research Council. Host universities receive a travel allowance of $5,000 per annum to cover travel costs associated with the research, for the scholar and his or her supervisor.

Two full scholarships are given in partnership with IOR Group Limited to support research that addresses the harmful effects of alcohol in populations and local and regional communities across Australia.
