Our Approach to Philanthropy

The Myer Foundation and Sidney Myer Fund aim to achieve change in Australia through supporting projects in key priority areas.

Through this support, the two entities, remain responsive to community needs, leverage significant engagement in priority areas, ensure ongoing and strong family engagement and work to be an exemplary model of philanthropy.

The model of philanthropy at The Myer Foundation and Sidney Myer Fund includes support of fewer but larger projects, while also maintaining a small grants program. The Large Grants Program looks to direct concentrated resources in targeted areas. The Small Grants Program responds to immediate community needs. Through grant making and other activities, The Myer Foundation and Sidney Myer Fund aim to influence policy making, leverage partners and develop and share knowledge.

The Sidney Myer Fund has three Large and Small Grants Programs, as follows:

  • The Arts and Humanities
  • Education
  • Poverty and Disadvantage.

The Sidney Myer Fund also has a number of Special Programs, including the Merlyn Myer Fund, the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Awards and the Sidney Myer Health Scholarships.

The Myer Foundation has two Large Grants Programs, as follows:

  • Beyond Australia
  • Sustainability and the Environment.

The Myer Foundation also has a number of Special Programs, including the G4 Committee which works to support young people and engage the fourth generation of Myer family members in philanthropy.
